Autumn adventures for all the family

The kids are well and truly back at school, you're finally in a routine again, summer is but a distant memory....and so it is time to plan your next adventure. Autumn is one of the best times to go sightseeing, as wherever you choose to go the temperatures will be lower and there will be fewer people than in the hectic summer months.

As designers and retailers of various adventure items, such as adult’s poncho towels and our brand new booicore changing mat, we are well used to throwing things in the car and just heading off.  Here are some of our favourite places to explore in Autumn:

Lake Como, Italy

When you think of Italy, you probably think of summer days swimming in lakes and eating ice cream. This is all great, but Italy is also a beautiful destination later in the year as well. The leaves on the trees that line the shores of Lake Como, for example, start to turn golden and red and they look stunning reflected in the lake.  One of the best ways to experience autumnal Lake Como is to drive the ancient Via Regina Roman road along the western coastline, which is lined with lots of awesome villas and beautiful orange-leaved trees.

Romantic Road, Germany

Romantic by name and romantic by nature, the Romantic Road in Germany runs from the historic city of Wurzburg and runs right through to the grand fairy-tale castle that is Neuschwanstein. The name of the road comes from a tourism drive by the German Government in post-war times and it seems to have worked wonders. There are lots of scenic stops you can do along the route, including Landsberg am Lech which hosts walls from the 15th century as well as the historic spa centre that is Bad Mergentheim. The real highlight of the trip though has to be your first view of the famous white Castle rising up through a forest of orange, red and yellow trees.

Transfargarasan, Romania

Easy for you to say! Transfagarasan is not a location as such, but a 56-mile road which crosses the Fagaras Mountains in Romania. Packed full of winding bends and steep descents, the whole road is packed with some of the most stunning scenery in the world. Once you get through the village of Capataneni, you will be able to see Poenari Castle, the ancestral home of Vlad the Impaler who was the inspiration for the character of Dracula.  If you can time your visit between December and April, you will be able to visit the Hotel of Ice at Balea Lake which is built every year using just Ice from the lake!

New Forest, England

You don't have to go overseas to enjoy an awesome autumn adventure though, as we have loads of stunning places on our doorstep. Take some time out to explore the New Forest and you will be rewarded with the sight of wild ponies rambling through fields of golden bracken and long drives through the foliage of red and gold. One of the other great things about the New Forest is that there is no real route to stick to, just go where you feel like and you will see something different every time.

All of these destinations are easily accessible and suitable for families of all ages. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your dirtbag, throw in your changing towel and off you go!
