Family festivals by the sea this summer

When you think of festivals, do you imagine standing in a pile of mud listening to your favourite artists in the rain? Well, think again, because festivals can now be enjoyed by the whole family while soaking up the rays, and spending your free time swimming or surfing in clear blue waters! Here is Booicore's round-up of some of the best family musical events by the sea this summer:

MEO Sudoeste, Alentejo, 1 - 5 August 2017

This year sees the 20th anniversary of this Portuguese institution, which hosts an eclectic mix of musical guests such as Lil Wayne, Jamiroquai and Dua Lipa. Known for its campsite parties, you may find that you end up staying longer than the five nights as it turns into an extended summer camp!

Boardmasters, Cornwall, 9 - 13 August 2017

Extreme sports and music - this has Booicore written all over it! Set in Newquay, one of the best surfing spots in the UK, you can surf, you can skate, you can bmx, you can do some yoga, and you can relax at the end of the day at an intimate evening gig on the beach. Headline acts this year include Jamiroquai, The Vaccines, and The Flaming Lips. Huge range of tickets available as well, from standard weekend camping, campervan, glamping and after parties. Best bit? The focus they have on protecting the coastline and making sure the festival has as little environmental impact as possible.

Sziget, Hungary, 9-16 August 2017

If Boardmasters is not your bag (are you crazy?) then how about heading over to Obudai Island on the River Danube in Hungary - children under 11 go free! With a carnival feel and some huge names such as Kasabian, Pink, Wiz Khalifa and PJ Harvey - the list goes on and on. There is also plenty to keep the kids occupied too with a travelling funfair, a ceramic studio, and dance lessons as well. With heated spring baths and sky-bars, a -plenty, this festival is seen as Europe's alternative to Burning Man.

Sonus Festival, Croatia, 20-24th August

If you are looking for a break from the kids on a slice of paradise this summer, then head over to Zrce Beach on Pag Island in Croatia. Unrivalled views, boat parties, beach clubs and unrivalled views - this music festival has it all. For over 18s only you can lose yourself in five days and four nights of full on partying featuring over 70 artists this year!

We love a good festival here at Booicore – but the damp walk from the showers to the tent is one of the inspirations for our changing towel design.
